Charlie would have hated all this fuss and bother over him. He was the most self effacing man I have ever met, and in the last year or more I confirmed that view, working with him on the ‘Honky Tonk’ CD. It was entirely about the music and the people who made it and the people who helped them produce it and get it out there and promote it. That’s what excited Charlie.

Pioneering rhythm and blues singer, songwriter, drummer, bandleader, disc jockey and good friend to Ace, Johnny Otis sadly passed away last week at the age of 90. Alec Palao pays tribute to the music legend who also happened to officiate at his wedding.

In these straitened times everyone is looking for a bargain. When it comes to the world of re-issues, there is a flood of CDs out there utilising recordings made prior to 1963 that are now free of copyright. Good news for the bargain hunters amongst you, as dozens of independent labels scramble to release ever-cheaper compilations of old masters.
