Jazz keyboard player, Bob James debut solo LP, “One” was released in April 1974. It reached #2 on the Billboard jazz album chart and even crossed over to their Pop chart where it peaked at #85.
CTI released a number of singles from the album and James cover of Gene McDaniels ‘Feel Like Making Love’ peaked at #88 on the Billboard chart.
“One” also sold became a cornerstone in the smooth jazz genre that swept America.
Although he went on to enjoy success with subsequent albums, “One” had legs and the advent of hip-hop saw producers and artists like Public Enemy and A Tribe Called Quest sample and incorporate ‘Nautilus’ into their own songs. It is now on of the most sampled tracks in American music history.
“One”, however, is a classic jazz album and Ace are delighted to reissue it not only for old school jazz and hip hop heads but a new generation ready to discover it.
