Prosaic title for pot-pourri of music from 10 nations & five centuries in the hands of a virtuoso picker. From Bach to Joseph Spence via Blind Blake and Bach again
For more than a decade, from early 1970s to mid-5Os, Kicking Mule Records was responsible for releasing eclectic guitar masterpieces. The label's arranger and producer, Tom Ball, compiled a wide range of music encompassing the array of stylistic approaches, which distinguish the genre of steel-guitar playing. Drawing from dozens of cultures-.-from America, the Bahamas, El Salvador, England, France, Italy, Germany, Paraguay, Scotland and Spain, Ball's pickings were written as early as the 1530s and as recently as the 1980s. Here, you can listen to Blind Blake's rags, Fahey-esque variations on classical themes, the subtle syncopation of Joseph Spence, and the crisp alternating bass of Merle Travis.
