IMPECCABLE Memphis soul sounds from singer, writer, producer Ms Denise La Salle, with her first 2 Westbound albums now brought together on one CD. Both albums were originally cut in Memphis, issued in 1972 and used the noted session musicians of Hi Records (the label that gave the soul and pop worlds Al Green and 0 V Wright). The first album was arranged by Gene 'Bowlegs' Miller and the second in conjunction with Green's famed producer Willie Mitchell. Three hit singles were spawned by these t2 discs, among them the sublime "Trapped By A Thing Called Love", which must rank as one of the finest records ever to come out of Memphis. The album itself is a mixture of Denise La Salle originals and covers, ranging from the more expected "Breaking Up Somebody's Home" and "You'll Lose A Good Thing" to the more surprising, but fine version of Jeannie C. Riley's mini-soap opera, "Harper Valley P.T.A." Interestingly all 3 hits were penned by the very talented Ms La Salle, whose career continues unabated to this day.
