Texan Doug Sahm's hyperkinetic approach to playing folk and blues guitar is like a tornado of styles which sweep the listener into a quintessential experience full of energy and vibrancy. He mixes Tex-Mex with blues, and in a matter of seconds switches to R&B and sometimes rolls it all together in one big gumbo concoction. Sahm has been recording for several decades and continues to work at an accelerating pace. Currently performing with his Grammy-nominated group The Last Real Blues Band, his live shows have been described as an awesome experience.
Sahm's Grammy awarded achievements with the Texas Tornados thrusted him into the limelight and established him as an important figure in roots music. Though fans may not remember his previous activities as the leader of the Sir Douglas Quintet, it was this group's smash hit single She's About A Mover that first brought him to the fore. These live recordings come from that era and contain a hint of Buddy Holly and Bob Dylan but are uniquely Doug Sahm: cyclonic and passionate.
