    More than 30 years ago, an Italian music fan with few contacts in the world of black American music decided he wanted to bring his beloved southern soul music to the area of Northern Italy where he lived by promoting a show headlined by one of his favourites, Solomon Burke. From that modest beginning in 1987 has emerged the world’s most prestigious soul music event. For the 31st time, the Porretta Soul Festival has again recently brought artists and music lovers from all over the world to the small, sleepy spa town in Northern Italy where it is held annually.

    At the end of last week, a 99-year-old man died.

    Quinton Claunch’s passing didn’t make the Friday lunchtime news, nor did it cause national networks to scrap their scheduled programming for the rest of the day, and broadcast hour after hour of tributes to his achievements.

    Although it should have done.

    News of Quinton’s death may have flown ‘under the radar’ - but as soon as it was announced, word quickly spread among a sad soul community that he had gone, and the subsequent tributes across soul’s social media have been many, and glowing.

    Cosmos Music and Ted Carroll, Trevor Churchill and Roger Armstrong - the founders of Ace Records and its associated companies - are happy to announce that Cosmos has entered into a long-term agreement to acquire a substantial interest in the owned master and publishing repertoire of the Ace group (amounting to some 9,000 masters and 3,000 compositions) and will work closely together with the management team at Ace Records to maintain and further build on its 46-year legacy.
